Reading Response: Book Summary
Oral evaluation
Prepare a 2-3 minute oral presentation to summarize your book:
State the title and author of your book
Make sure you present the details of your book in sequential order. Answer questions like :
1: Introduction:
Who is your story about?
Where does the story take place?
When does the story take place?
What happens in the beginning?
2: Main Idea:
What action/ conflict takes place during the story (main idea)?
Who is involved in the action?
Why is that action taking place?
How is it taking place?
3: Conclusion:
How is that action resolved?
Who resolves that action?
What happens in the end? How does the story end?
Give specific details but only pertinent ones
Make sure your presentation is in the PRESENT tense!
Prepare and practice your presentation
You can bring notes to refer to but do not read (I am not evaluating the written part)
Tell your story while trying to convince us to read it (expression, engage our interest)
We should be able to visualize the story you are summarizing
Use newly acquired vocabulary words from the book
Be prepared to answer questions about your book
You MUST present a visual aid to go along with your book (mobile, poster, pictures/ captions…)
